What are TRC-20 tokens?

TRC-20 is the most popular token standard used on the TRON blockchain platform. TRC-20 is used to issue fungible tokens, where the individual units of the token are interchangeable with each other. Some of the more popular TRC-20 tokens include JUST (JST), APENFT (NFT), WINkLink (WIN). TRC-20 tokens are issued through smart contracts.

The TRC-20 standard allows users to leverage the TRON blockchain platform and create tokens that serve a wide variety of use-cases. For example, tokens could be used to represent ownership of a platform, membership in a DAO, stablecoins, or arbitrary utility tokens. By using the widely accepted TRC-20 standard, token issuers can ensure that their tokens are easy to trade across different DeFi applications and can be stored in the most popular TRON wallets.

TRON also supports another token standard called TRC-10, where tokens are issued through system contracts. An example of a TRC-10 token would be BitTorrent Token (BTT).

How do I buy TRC-20 tokens?

You can buy TRC-20 tokens on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance and Poloniex. They can typically be traded against stablecoins like USDT, or other cryptocurrencies such as TRX or BTC. However, centralized exchanges are only likely to list the TRC-20 tokens with bigger market capitalizations.

If you can’t find the TRC-20 token you’re interested in on a centralized exchange, you can try using a decentralized exchange such as JustSwap. If you want to buy TRC-20 tokens on decentralized exchanges on the TRON network, you will most likely need to buy some TRX first.
